The campus of LSU Alexandria will be closed on Thursday, July 4, 2013, in celebration of Independence Day. However, the Governor’s recent proclamation of Friday, July 5, 2013, as a legal state holiday does not apply to LSU Alexandria or any other institution in the LSU System.

Arnold Aubert Vernon, a resident of Oceanside, Calif., made a gift of more than $300,000 to LSUA with the intent of establishing the Arnold Aubert Vernon Endowed Scholarship Fund. The gift will be used to apply for matching funds with the Louisiana Board of Regents Support Fund for Endowed Scholarships with the ultimate goal of creating a $500,000 endowed scholarship.

The LSUA Lady Generals will take on the Reinhardt (Ga.) Lady Eagles on Monday in Game 2 of the 2013 NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round, hosted by Belhaven University. The game begins at 5 p.m., and will be held at the Clinton Sportsplex in Clinton, Miss.

Middleton Awards – the most prestigious recognition LSU Alexandria bestows upon students – were awarded to three students at the university’s 51st annual Honors Convocation. The award is presented to students in the name of the late Col. W. R. Middleton, a legendary assistant professor of geology and counselor on the original LSUA faculty.

A Bachelor of Science in Elder Care Administration at LSU Alexandria was conditionally approved by the Louisiana Board of Regents on Thursday. The program, the first of its kind in the state of Louisiana, will begin this summer.
