SPERO
Special Program for the Enhancement of Resources and Opportunities
LSUA’s SPERO program is a four-year inclusive postsecondary education program which aims to bring hope to the lives of students with intellectual disabilities. SPERO provides skills training classes to assist students in leading more independent
lives and take up gainful employment in their communities. SPERO focuses on:
- Independent living skills
- Social and communication skills
- Employment and workforce training
- Academic success
- Social involvement within LSUA and CENLA communities
SPERO Mentors
SPERO mentors assist and support program students while they are attending their SPERO classes, audited courses, employment training, LSUA events, and community outings. Mentor must be a full-time student and have an overall college GPA of at least 2.5.

Four students are admitted to SPERO every fall semester. - Who teaches SPERO students?
SPERO Staff teach SPERO skills classes and LSUA faculty teach audited courses. - Will SPERO students have mentors?
All SPERO students are paired with traditional LSUA student workers that serve as their mentors. SPERO mentors accompany and assist SPERO students at all times. - What type of certificate will the student receive after completing the four-year program?
SPERO students l receive a SPERO Certificate of Achievement after 4 year program completion. - Does SPERO host tours?
SPERO is not currently providing tours.
