ALEXANDRIA - LSUA proudly congratulates Charles S. “Charlie” Weems III on his induction into the Louisiana Political Museum & Hall of Fame, an honor that recognizes individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to Louisiana’s political landscape. Since its founding in 1993, the Hall of Fame has celebrated the legacies of figures such as Huey Long, Jimmie Davis, Edwin Edwards, James Carville, and Steve Scalise—remarkable company now joined by a lifelong advocate for higher education and public service in Central Louisiana.
Weems’ impact on LSUA is profound. His unwavering advocacy was instrumental in the transformation of LSUA from a two-year junior college into a four-year institution authorized to grant bachelor’s degrees. This pivotal change, secured through collaboration with the LSU Board of Supervisors, Louisiana Board of Regents, and the Louisiana Legislature, helped lay the foundation for the university’s current growth and success. True to his staunch support of LSUA, Weems served on the LSUA Foundation Board for more than 25 years.
“Charlie’s vision for LSUA helped spark a political miracle that changed the trajectory of this institution,” said LSUA Chancellor Paul Coreil. “Because of his leadership, LSUA is now the fastest-growing four-year university in the state, with more than 7,000 students and a statewide reputation for excellence.”
Throughout his career, Weems has served as a trusted advisor, mentor, and champion of LSUA. Melinda Anderson, LSUA Chief of Staff, noted, “Charlie’s unwavering support for LSUA has made an indelible mark on this campus. He has given his time, energy, and wisdom to ensure our continued growth and success. We will always honor his legacy.”
